A Sissy for Miriam (Finale!)

Finally the day was here. Miriam, Mom and Dad got in the family car to drive to the airport. In just a few hours, Sissy would be in their sight, their arms, and in their family. At the airport gate, Miriam and Mom cut out photos of their family and of Sissy and glued them to a poster board while Dad went to check on the flight. They wrote “We Love you, Welcome Home” at the top of the poster board. They drew and stamped flowers and hearts all over the poster board. Finally the board was done. Miriam smiled. She thought it was beautiful and that Sissy would LOVE it. Mom suggested that Miriam hang it in Sissy’s room when they returned home. Miriam liked that idea. Suddenly out of the corner of her eyes, Miriam saw lights in the dark night sky threw the window. The lights were getting closer and closer. “I think that’s her flight,” Dad said, pointing to the airplane. Miriam heart began to race fast.

After several minutes, people began to flood the gate. Miriam, Mom and Dad waited for Sissy to come through the doors. “There she is! There she is!” Mom shouted. Dad picked up Miriam so she could see better. Miriam looked at the little girl walking down the runway. She was beautiful and just looked just like the pictures she slept with every night. Miriam noticed she was clutching something in her hands. Miriam wondered what it was.

The agency’s coordinator finally made her way to where Mom, Miriam and Dad were standing. Mom reached for Sissy and hugged her tightly; Dad put Miriam back down on the floor. “We are so glad to have you home. We love you so very much, Natalie.” Mom whispered in Sissy’s ear. Natalie looked a little bewildered at first and searched the crowd for a more familiar face. She then spotted Miriam. She smiled and wiggled herself free from Mom’s arms. She ran over to Miriam, hugged her and gave her the things she had clutched in her hands. Miriam recognized them at once. Sissy had brought back the photo album, the letter and the jeweled picture frame she’d made. In the frame were a picture of Mom, Dad, Miriam and Sissy. Someone at the agency had put their pictures together and put the picture in the frame that Sissy create! Miriam thought that was wonderful and giggled happily as she hugged her new Sissy. Mom and Dad stood by with tears in their eyes as Miriam finally showed them the first letter she’d written to Sissy those many months ago:

I kant wate to meat you. I pray for you every day. I wantd a sissy for a long tim. I luv you so berry much. Pleez coom hom soon. Luv, Miriam.

At the bottom, Miriam had draw a simply picture of their new family: Mom, Dad, Miriam and Sissy. And wrote “Or Famaly” at the bottom.

“Let’s go home,” Dad said tearfully. “Let’s go home.” “Yes,” Miriam thought. Sissy is finally home.”

The End.
