Over the next few days while Dad was at work, Miriam and Mom read articles on the country which they planned to adopt and they looked at a list of photos of children of all ages from their chosen country. Miriam went through pages and pages of photos, looking carefully at each child’s faces. Some of the children looked so very sad, she thought to herself. Finally Miriam saw her: a little girl, around four years old with big brown eyes, brown skin, and black hair. “Here she is! Here’s my Sissy!” Miriam exclaimed. Mom looked at the picture also and read the description on the child. “Let’s get some information on her and see what happens.” Mom said. Mom sent the photo and information to Dad and she and Miriam decided to take a walk around the neighborhood before lunch.
Miriam chatted the whole time they walked. Mom listened intently. “She is definitely excited,” Mom thought to herself. Mom wondered if Miriam really understood what was happening or how long the wait would be. She decided to keep Miriam as much apart of the process as possible. As they entered the house from their walk, the phone rang. It was the agency. The little girl was available and the family could start the paperwork for her. Mom told Miriam the news. Excited, she called Dad to tell him all about it.
Mom and Dad began working on the paperwork as Miriam decorated a frame that Mom bought for the picture they’d seen on the internet. “Mom, can we send a frame to Sissy so that she can decorate one too?” Miriam asked. “That’s a great idea,” Mom said. They gathered all the jewel pieces and the additional frame they’d purchased to send to Sissy when they sent their paperwork. “We should also make a photo album, Miriam, so that Sissy can get to know her new family. Do you want to help me take and label pictures to put in the album?” Dad asked. “YES,” Miriam exclaimed!
The next day, Miriam and Dad took photos of various things: the house, the dog, the cat, and the play set in the back yard. Miriam picked up leaves, acorns, and beautiful spring flowers to put in the album. Dad, Mom and Miriam put the album together. “I’ll be right back”, Miriam stated. “I want to write Sissy a note”. When she returned, Miriam handed the note to Mom to put into the album. “It’s private, Mom; It’s just for her to read”, Miriam told Mom as Mom tried to peek at the letter. “Ohhh,” said Mom. Mom tucked the letter in the front of the album. Miriam couldn’t wait for Sissy to read it.
