A Sissy for Miriam (Part 3)

Over the next few months, Miriam, Mom and Dad sent many pictures, drawings and letters to Sissy. Mom and Miriam took pictures of Sissy’s new room during the decoration process. Miriam helped pick out all the things for Sissy’s new room. She helped paint, make the bed, hang some pictures. She put her favor dolly on Sissy’s well-made bed. Mom began to cry. “What a wonderful gift for Sissy, Miriam. I’m sure she’ll love it.” Mom stated.

As the months drew onward and the wait time increased, Miriam began to worry. Although the agency sent monthly updates and pictures, the Miriam was still very eager to have Sissy home with them. One night before bedtime, Miriam began to cry. “What’s wrong?” Mom asked, pulling Miriam close to her. Miriam began to cry harder. “Will Sissy like me? Will she like her new room? Will she EVER come home?” Miriam said through her tears.

Mom looked at Miriam and wiped away her falling tear. “It may be a little while longer, honey. But we are keeping track of the time using our family calendar, remember?” Miriam shook her head. “And when Sissy gets here, we’ll need to be extra patient with her”, Mom continued. We need to show her love but understand that all this will be new to her. We will need to be supportive of each other and be very patient. Eventually she will love you. She will enjoy being with you and enjoy her room. But it may take her some time to get used to it all.” Miriam didn’t quite understand but she trusted Mom and Dad wholeheartedly. Mom and Miriam prayed for their family, for Miriam’s little heart and for Sissy. Miriam fell fast asleep.

Several weeks later, Mom received some exciting news. All of Sissy’s paperwork had been processed and Sissy was ready to come home. Mom waited until dinner to let Miriam and Dad in on the news.

“Well,” Mom started. “I received some news today on Sissy.” Miriam and Dad dropped their forks and stared at Mom. “She’s ready to come home! The agency is now making plans to go and get her. She will be here in about 2 weeks.” Miriam was ecstatic. She ran to the family calendar to count out the days. “2 weeks! She’ll be here in 2 weeks!” Miriam shouted. There are still some things that need to be done,” Mom said. Over the next few days, Mom and Miriam put the finishing touches on Sissy’s room. Miriam picked out matching dresses for them to wear to church the Sunday after Sissy’s arrival. Each day, there seemed to be something new and exciting for them to do to prepare for Sissy’s arrival.
